Student Assistants

In addition to Academic Success Coaches and CLUE Tutors, ASP also hires student assistants to support overall operations of programming. There are a few different Student Assistant positions.

CLUE Drop-in Student Assistants play an important role in ensuring CLUE’s 300+ nightly participants are receiving tutoring and the program is running smoothly. 

Under the supervision of ASP’s CLUE Program Manager, the CLUE Student Assistant will have the following responsibilities:  

  • Serve as the first point of contact for evening CLUE programming.
  • Support the nightly operations of CLUE via setup and breakdown of the center. 
  • Aggregate and clean student data for internal (tutor-facing) and external (campus partner facing) evaluation, assessment and reporting efforts. 
  • Assist in the implementation of changes and improvements to ASP programming to support evolving student needs and streamline operations.  
    • This can include conducting tutor observations or supporting survey development.
  • Maintain the unit storage room.
  • Track, store, maintain, and manage CLUE technology, with the support of UAA IT staff, such as laptops, tablets, and check-in systems.
  • Support in recruitment, hiring, and training efforts of tutors when needed.
  • Be present during CLUE hours to support tutors and students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled at least part-time at the University of Washington Seattle during each quarter of employment, except summer quarter. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1 year of office operations or customer/food service experience.
  • Culturally aware and conscious of diversity issues within student populations, subject areas, and/or higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and personnel in a host of other departments and programs on campus. 
  • Detail oriented with strong management and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to rapidly analyze and respond to new challenges.

Work hours, location:

  • Pre-Fall (Early September): 5-10 hours per week; mostly remote, flexible schedule within hours of operation (9 am - 5 pm) 
  • Fall & Winter quarters: 3 nights a week from 6:30 pm - 11 pm; 10-12 hours per week
  • Spring quarter: 12-15 hours per week, including some daytime hours to support hiring
  • Located in Mary Gates Hall

Expectations of Student Assistants:

  • Participate in all training sessions (paid) to develop an understanding of ASP’s mission and coaching practices. These include: 
    • An asynchronous, online training (5 hours total) 
    • Pre-Fall Orientation and training starting in September
  • Staff CLUE during assigned hours
  • Work 10-12 hours per week for the entire academic year, typically 6:30-11pm at least two nights a week
  • Participate in monthly tutoring staff meetings, professional development, and other work-related events
  • Maintain proactive written and verbal communication with CLUE Program Manager, Lead Tutor, and other tutors on staff
  • Manage time effectively to ensure shifts are attended, school schedule is maintained, and personal wellness is prioritized

The ASP Student Assistant supports Academic Success Coaching team and overall program operations. 

Under the supervision of ASP’s Assistant Director, the ASP Student Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the daily operations of ASP and support the Assistant Director with various administrative projects including survey development, website updates, planning team events, and more
  • Aggregate and clean student data for ASP evaluation, assessment, and reporting efforts
  • Provide support on administrative tasks including email outreach, office supply management, and more
  • Managing front desk office area, greeting visitors, answering student questions, and organizing office space
  • Managing various projects such as curation of monthly monthly emails for Academic Support Tips listserv, professional development newsletters for student employees, and more
  • Provide support to the ASP team by supplying and printing materials and making sure the space is ready for student appointments
  • Assist in the implementation of changes and improvements to ASP programming to support evolving student needs and streamline operations
  • Assist with the hiring process of new student staff during spring quarter 2026 or earlier if needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled part or full-time (at least 6 credits for undergraduates, 4 credits for graduates), at the University of Washington during each quarter of employment
  • Experience with using Google Sheets/ Microsoft Excel to aggregate and clean data 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and personnel in a host of other departments and programs on campus
  • Culturally aware and conscious of diversity issues within student populations, subject areas, and/or higher education
  • Detail oriented with strong management and organizational skills
  • Prior office operations or customer service experience

Below are expectations and requirements of the Student Assistant when in the position including training, hours, and various support.

  • Participate in all training sessions (paid) to develop an understanding of ASP’s mission, ASP programs, and work of student assistant. These include:
    • An asynchronous, online training in September (5-10 hours)
    • Fall Orientation training before the start of Autumn Quarter (exact dates to be determined)
    • Continued synchronous training throughout the academic year
  • Work 8-12 hours per week throughout the 2025-2026 Academic Year
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, professional development, and other work-related events
  • Attend ASP meetings when needed 
  • Maintain proactive communication with ASP staff
  • Be willing to support ASP team when needed

The ASP Digital Engagement Student Assistant supports communications, outreach, and social media efforts for all ASP Programs.

Under the supervision of ASP’s Assistant Director, the Digital Engagement Student Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Design and edit materials for ASP operations and promotional materials (signage, flyers, digital marketing, etc.)
  • Manage ASP’s social media accounts including planning and creating content for each week, coordinating with ASP team on content creation, sharing events from campus resources, and keeping students up to date through social media
  • Design and create monthly emails for Academic Support Tips listserv
  • Support marketing and outreach communications of ASP services and programs including helping with tabling events, emails, and more
  • Managing front desk office area, greeting visitors, answering student questions, and organizing office space
  • Assist with the hiring process of new coaches or student staff during spring quarter 2025 or earlier if needed
  • Offer creative innovation as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled part or full-time (at least 6 credits for undergraduates, 4 credits for graduates), at the University of Washington during each quarter of employment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and implementing social media communications 
  • Experience with digital platforms such as Canva
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with ASP team, students, faculty, and staff in various departments and programs across campus
  • Culturally aware and conscious of diversity issues in student populations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Expectations:

  • Participate in all training sessions (paid) to develop an understanding of ASP’s mission, coaching, and work of student assistant. These include:
    • An asynchronous, online training (5-10 hours) starting at the end of August
    • Fall Orientation training before the start of Autumn Quarter (exact dates to be determined)
    • Continued synchronous training will be required throughout the academic year
  • Work 10-15 hours a week throughout the academic year
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, professional development, and other work-related events
  • Attend all ASP meetings when needed
  • Maintain proactive communication with Academic Support Programs staff
  • Be willing to support team when needed

Student Assistants do not directly tutor or coach students but do work closely with our teams to support overall operations. They support with administrative tasks to help programs run and support tutors and coaches. They are important part of our leadership team to help make sure tutors, coaches, and students are well supported.

No course requirements. Students Assistants must be current UW student each quarter of employment. 

Undergraduate students: $22.65 per hour
Graduate students: $22.65 per hour
